People often run into trouble with their partners because they have selected the wrong partner to begin with. Good people just like you make unhealthy choices because they have missed an important step in the process of selecting a mate. They have forgotten, or they never learned, the first rule in dating - KNOW THYSELF first! They think they spend enough time getting to know their mate in the beginning and then wonder why the relationship turned south somewhere down the road. They are left standing, dazed and confused on the highway to emptiness.

Well, one reason for failed relationships is that people often get to know their mates before they in fact know themselves! Let me say that again, many people will spend more time and energy getting to know their person - of - interest than they will getting to know who they are themselves. It is a case of the proverbial “cart before the horse” problem.

If you will take the time to learn about who you are and then live your life with INTENT then your life’s satisfaction will go way UP! You will feel like you are on top of the world once you know who you are because that is the key to getting what you want from life. Do you want be happily married? You can do it!

Now, many of you who read this will say something like “What is Mark talking about? I already know who I am. I just happen to run into schmucks all of the time.” Maybe you do and maybe you don’t know who are but my guess is, that you don’t know yourself well enough to select a mate that will sustain you for life.

Selecting a mate may be the single most important task an adult has to make and most people are ill-equipped to undertake such an important endeavor. Listen, no one gets married thinking that “This is only a trial run.” We make the leap into marital bliss when we believe we have found the ONE person who we can give ourselves to - our soul mate The ONE we will spend the rest of our life with. Sadly, most marriages end in divorce and I believe that a major contributing factor is that most people have not put in the work to get to know themselves.
